Whanau Ora Annual Report

Te Whanau o Waipareira, 2023

Whanau Ora is a culturally-based and whanau-centered (family-oriented) approach to well-being as a whole. The organization builds on the strengths and capabilities of the community by providing necessary services to enable positive change across health, education, housing, employment, improved standards of living, and cultural identity.

As the senior graphic designer of Te Whanau o Waipareira, the parent organization of Whanau Ora, I designed Whanau Ora’s annual report for 2022. The report is critical in documenting the organization’s impact, and is sent to all government ministers to support future funding.

I designed the annual report’s visual style and branding to mirror Whanau Ora’s successful ad campaign from earlier in the year: Our Future Is Maori, by advertising agency Motion Sickness.

I utilized the color palette, photography, and typography from the campaign as well as built out additional design components aligned with the style of the original assets. The photographs are featured as hero images to each section of the report. I employed three typefaces to complete a structured hierarchy of type: I used Druk Wide by Commercial Type for headings, Signifier by Klim Type Foundry to emphasize pull quotes and opening statements, and Gordita by Type Atelier for body copy.
